CANI Promotes Community Wellness at Lake County Health and Safety Fair

The Lake County Health Department welcomed residents to its 2nd Annual Health and Safety Fair. Community Advocates of Northern Indiana (CANI) was eager to join for the second year to provide BMI and behavioral health screenings to the community. 

The event brought together more than 35 vendors from across The Region, featured mobile health vehicles, and free lunches provided by the Salvation Army. From face painting and educational classes to entertainment from the County’s K-9 dogs, there were resources and fun for everyone.

Indiana ranked 10th among the unhealthiest states in the country, receiving a total score of 76.37 out of 100. With high rates of chronic disease linked to excess weight, BMI screenings are an important tool for identifying potential health risks early. BMI is a measurement that compares a person’s weight to their height. CANI offers a quick, no-cost screening to help individuals learn whether their BMI falls within a healthy,

overweight, or obese range.
